Our latest photos are in the South Island gallery
The Lahar was formed by the tephra dam holding back Ruapehu's crater lake bursting during torrential rain. Fortunately we were in the area (paddling the Mangawhero in flood) so could get to Colliers bridge in time to see it, just after the peak flow had passed. Hil tries to model this event so was quite excited...
