Gallery source / NZ Tramping / 06-07 Whio, Silvereye and Bush-bashing in the Ruahines

We spent a damp, windy Queen's Birthday long weekend tramping to Leon Kinvig hut, along the tops then down through the bush to Awatere hut (not recommended!!), then back along the Makaretu river. We watched two Whio (endangered blue ducks that live in the whitewater) on the Pohangina river outside Leon Kinvig hut!
